In this Dec. 14, 2009, photo, President Barack Obama meets with members of the financial industry in the Roosevelt Room of the White House in Washington, to discuss the economic recovery. Clockwise, from left are, American Express Chief Executive Officer Ken Chenault; Wells Fargo President and Chief Executive Officer John Stumpf; Bank of New York Mellon Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bob Kelly; Council of Economic Advisers Chair Christina Romer; JPMorgan Chase Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jamie Dimon; PNC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jim Rohr; Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner; and the president. After meeting with bank executives, Obama noted "a big gap" between the CEOs and their lobbyists on his campaign to rewrite the rules governing the financial industry. The CEOs "support reform," Obama said, but their lobbyists have been sending a different message. But the "gap" Obama said he discovered is an illusion. The bankers not only are well aware of their lobbyists' efforts, they direct them.
